SAFETY NOTES
Although ANKALAD can be fitted to any ladder, please note that the DTI and British Standards Institute now only recommend the use of ladders rated as BS Class 1 and BS EN131 (previously Class 2). These cover duty load ratings of 115kg to 130kg (i.e. max safe working loads 150kg and 175kg). Any ladders with a lower duty rating, and this includes all aluminium ladders with 'H' section (or "I-beam") stiles, should only be used with extreme caution and if used free-standing with the ANKALAD, should be double-footed, i.e. with a second person standing with both feet on the bottom rung and with one hand on each stile.ANKALAD is designed for use with ladders with a working length of 28ft (8.0 metres approx.) fully extended. Make sure that the ladder is correctly placed against a structure. The correct angle for the safe use of a ladder is 75°. This may be estimated by using the ratio of 4:1 (height of ladder against the distance of ladder feet from the wall). When used as a STEP LADDER the user should not climb higher than POINT X, the upper mounting point of the ANKALAD (approx 2.4m / 8ft from the ground). When used as a STEP LADDER do not extend the ladder higher than may be required for a hand hold. Care should also be taken to ensure that the working angle of 75° is maintained. Please maintain the product in a clean condition and inspect all fastenings and locking buttons prior to use, particularly after prolonged periods of storage. UNEVEN GROUND: When working on uneven ground we recommend you use the ANKALAD LADDER LEVELLER. |

FREE-STANDING USE Since its first introduction in 1996, ANKALAD has become a firm favourite with gardeners, tree surgeons and topiarists - all of whom have recognised the enormous advantages in using the ANKALAD+LADDER combination as a safe means of trimming hedges and trees, and who regularly use it in the free-standing mode. The following tips have been passed on to us from our customers and they will help you to do your work in greater safety: 1. Your horizontal struts should be extended to the maximum possible length. 2. Use the adjustment on the vertical struts to maintain the correct working angle of 75°. 3. Make absolutely sure that BOTH your ladder feet are firmly on or in the ground. 4. If you are working on soft ground, stand on the bottom rung and make the feet dig into the ground for better stability. 5. If you are working alone, only climb up to POINT X (the top point at which your ANKALAD is attached to the ladder) which is approximately 2.4m / 8ft above the ground. 6. If you need to climb higher, get someone else to stand on the bottom rung and hold the stiles. 7. Under no circumstances should you climb higher than the top rung of the lower section of your ladder. 8. When moving the combination, stand underneath the ladder and lift it on your shoulders with one hand on each of the vertical struts. 9. If your ladder has three or more rungs above the top mounting point, use only the bottom section. It saves carrying the extra weight of the second section. GUARANTEE ANKALAD is fully guaranteed for 3 years against defects from faulty materials or workmanship. Damage due to abuse, mishandling or unauthorised repair is not covered. This guarantee does not affect your statutory rights. SAFETY ANKALAD has been designed specifically with safety in mind. It has a Safe Working Load of 150kg (24 stones). Please ensure that you follow the fitting and maintenance instruction and do not exceed the Safe Working Load of your ladder.
