"SOVEREIGN"
RETRACTABLE STAIRWAY

• Constructed from very heavy-duty pressure die-cast components of high strength aluminium alloy, the Sovereign Stairway has been engineer designed for minimum maintenance and maximum ease of use.
  

• Powerful counterbalance springs ensure a smooth, steady folding and unfolding action under total control with no danger to the user.
  

• TUV tested & approved to Euro Safety Standard EN14975 (DIN4570) with safe load of 200kg per tread or 500kg/m² on the overall structure.
  

• Mounted on a 580 x 200mm plywood backboard, it is suitable for use in situations with or without a trapdoor.  Simply bolt to a vertical surface above the trapdoor ( if present ).  Height of joist may need increasing to 200mm and must be very secure to take the weight of these ladders.
  

• Can be fitted to vertical walls ( with 50mm of extra packing behind the backboard ) and even to a horizontal surface when one of the special Accessory Hinges is added. 
  

• Accessory Hinges allows Sovereigns to be mounted on a horizontal mezzanine floor or behind a vertical door and folded away when not in use. These are Gas Piston Controlled for maximum safety and ease of use.  Must be fitted at the continental factory then imported (with consequent extended delivery period). 
  

• Cast alloy non-slip treads are a very comfortable and safe 350 x 140mm ( 14" wide x 5½" deep ). Treads are 300 x 140mm wide on 12 tread model.  Tread-to-tread height 270mm.
  

• Handrails are not supplied as standard but are available as an optional extra  for R/H side only.  In practice most users do not feel the need because the treads are so large and the ladder is so rigid. Trapdoor length 800mm required for handrail to fit correctly.  Handrail extends 400mm behind timber backboard when closed so is not suitable if fitting Sovereign to a vertical wall which extends above the ladder.
  

• Although Sovereign Stairways will fit through trapdoor lengths as shown below, for maximum user convenience we recommend that all traps should be 0.9m - 1.2m long wherever possible.

"VCL" CARRIAGE

• Industrial duty but not as robust as the others on this page.
• Alloy ladder is the De-Luxe Stairway (code: YDLX) on previous page but here it is mounted on a sliding carriage with nylon rollers to allow the ladder to disappear behind a vertical door or onto a mezzanine floor.  Can also be installed where the ceiling hatch has to open upwards.
• Heavy duty construction & industrial duty.  Kitemarked to BS7553:1992 Class H : Heavy Use with a max safe load of 150kg (23.5 stones).

• An industrial duty sliding alloy loft ladder with two sections which is equally suitable for the office or the home.

• Spring counterbalanced action on nylon slides for smooth, silent, effortless operation.

• Pivot arms and heavy duty springs are attached to sliding carriage base.

• Extra-wide non-slip alloy treads are 3 ¼” (83mm) deep and heavily ribbed.

• Two large handrails are fitted full length for maximum comfort and safety.

• Ideal for domestic use where a very safe and sturdy ladder is required and highly suitable for many commercial applications.
